How We Work
Most owners can tell when something’s off in their business. Figuring out where it’s actually coming from is the hard part. That’s where we start.
Seeing the whole picture.
We built the Maturity Map to understand where a business is in its growth journey. There are four spaces every business operates across, and the map tracks maturity from the inside out — within each space, and as a whole.
What is business maturity?
How well the business operates as it scales.
Is it 100% dependent on the owner to manage daily operations? Are there documented processes and a system for delegating authority?
Making data-driven decisions.
How accurate is the data you collect in your business? Does it allow you to make predictions about the future? Can you make decisions from a strategic place, rather than being reactive?
Ultimately, maturity means stability.
Stable daily operations, even if someone calls off sick or takes a vacation. Predictable marketing strategies that provide stable revenue. Financial forecasting that works, so you’re not constantly worried about cash flow, unexpected expenses, or a huge tax bill at the end of the year.
The Spaces
Every business runs across four spaces. Pick one to see what lives inside it.
The map is clickable, too
Where are you going and why? Vision, business model, goals, risk, decision-making.
The Stages
Each space matures through three stages, from the inside ring out. Not every part of your business is at the same place — and that’s normal. Almost nobody is strong everywhere.
The rings are clickable, too
You're reacting to whatever's loudest. Marketing is whatever you had time for this week. Systems are duct tape and hope. There's no real strategy — just the next fire, the next deadline, the next thing that breaks. If this is you, you're tired, and you have reason to be.
The Map
Put them together and every part of your business has an address. Pick a space and a stage — the reading below is what that combination looks like day to day.
Any cell on the map is clickable, too
I'm just trying to keep afloat.
Decisions get made on whatever's in front of you. No plan — gut calls and urgency. You're not sure where the business is headed because you're too busy keeping it alive.
Most businesses we work with land somewhere in the first two rings. That’s not a failure — it’s a starting point, and it’s the same starting point almost everyone has.
Move first. Refine as you go.
We can spend months on a perfect plan, and then discover 10 reasons why it won’t work as soon as we try to make it happen. And we know a small business can’t afford an overhead investment without seeing immediate wins. That’s why we use an iterative approach so we can quickly test solutions and you start noticing the improvements right away, not in six months.
Move
Start moving. Momentum over perfection.
Discover
Learn what's actually true from the work. The map is not the territory.
Structure
Capture what works so it's not trapped in anyone's head.
Refine
Iterate. Make it better. Then do it again.
Every engagement is different. Here’s how it usually works.
We publish our ranges because you shouldn’t have to get on a sales call to find out if you can afford us. A lot of consulting firms start at $10,000 a month. That’s not us, and it’s not who we’re built for.
Starting a conversation
Free
You’ve probably been burned by a contractor or vendor who promised something and never followed through. So before anything else, you get to know us. We’re all just humans, and this needs to feel like a good fit for you.
Building your map
Priced by size and scope — quoted after the first conversation
When you’re ready to move forward, we start with your maturity map. It’s a high-level look at where your business actually stands today. The point is to set a baseline, so you can see your growth over time. It also lets us build a strategy around your specific business, not a generic template.
The build
$1,000 to $2,400 a month, in six-month increments
From your maturity map, we develop a plan for implementing solutions and building your business maturity. We build in small, careful steps, instead of a massive overhaul that disrupts your operations and cash flow. The solutions look different for every business. Maybe it’s helping you optimize software you never figured out how to use. Maybe it’s creating workflows so your team can work more independently. Or maybe it’s a marketing strategy and building your online presence. Where you land in the range depends on how much we’re building and how complex it is. This is what we figure out together after we build the map.
After the build
A lighter retainer, or as-needed
We’re not trying to keep you on a retainer forever. The heavy work happens early. Once the systems are built and running, we reassess and most clients move into a lighter maintenance phase at a lower monthly retainer, or we only engage again as needed.
Throughout, we’re closer to a general contractor for the business than a vendor with a menu. When the work needs something we don’t do, we bring in someone who does. You don’t have to become an expert in analytics, finance, or HR just to find and manage the right help.
No plan yet. No pressure. Just a conversation about what’s actually going on.
The first one is free, and you’ll leave it with a clearer picture whether or not we ever work together.
